Dominic's first sporting event (& a few more pics from RI)

Here are a few more pictures from our Rhode Island trip on Martin Luther King Jr. Day (for the original blog, see the blog entitled "My mother is an Angel").

We had an awesome snow storm last week-however with the rain and warm temps this week, the snow is totally gone.  We received a pretty good dump though.  I loved it!  I was wishing Dominic was a little older so we could go outside and play in it!

Saturday we went to the Yale women's gymnastics meet against Penn.  Dominic wore his puppy paw print hoodie to show his support for the Yale Bulldogs!

It's definitely harder to get out and do things, but I'm determined to not spend all winter cooped up.

Michael has been really busy preparing for internship interviews.  He flies to San Francisco this weekend to interview with a consulting firm called BCG.  Then next weekend he has an interview with a company he is really excited about called Innosight.  They are based in Boston.  We'll keep ya'll posted on how things go!

Grateful

Today I felt grateful.

Grateful for my friend and neighbor Natalie who watched Dominic so I could go on a bike ride

2 1/2 weeks old

I hope that Dominic forgives me for holding a weekly photo shoot!  I think he's getting cuter every day.  I can't get enough of his hair--it's so long!!  Keep in mind that this is his natural hair style.  Blonde.  Straight.  Mohawk.  Who would've guessed?!  Not to mention I think his eyes are turning blue.  I always imagined that he would have dark curly hair and dark eyes like Michael.  Regardless, I have to say, I think he's pretty cute.  Which one is your favorite?

My mother is an angel

My mother is an angel.  It was so nice to have her come visit after Dominic was born.  She worked endlessly cleaning and helping with the baby for the 12 days that she was here.  Sadly, due to the crazy cold weather we weren't able to get out much with the baby so she didn't get to see many sites.  I guess that means she'll just have to come back and visit soon!  Here are some highlights of her time here.

We bundled Dominic up so we could go to the museum.  He looks so chubby here-but he is proudly rockin' his hoodie from Peru.  Thanks Berta!

My mom and I took Dominic to Yale's Peabody Museum.  He was very fascinated and learned a lot I'm sure

Once home, Dominic eagerly told Daddy about the museum.   Michael was happy to see us after a long day of school.

For the holiday (MLK Jr. day) we decided to cruise up to Newport, Rhode Island.  None of us had been to Rhode Island, so we thought it would be a fun day trip.

We got to drive across that really cool bridge on the way over to Newport.  I was like a little kid and thought it was sooo cool.

The sunset was very pretty.  We don't ever get to see the sunset from our house in New Haven, so this was a treat!  (There are too many tall buildings and trees that interfere with our view!)

By the turn of the 20th century, many of the nation's wealthiest families were summering in Newport, including the Vanderbilts, Astors and Widener family.  These families constructed large "cottages" (AKA mansions) where they would come for a brief social season.  The mansions had elaborate receiving, dining, music and ballrooms, but only few bedrooms, since the guests were expected to have cottages of their own.  The next series of photos are taken of some of the large houses that we saw.

All of the homes in town were enormous!  We couldn't believe it!

Before my mom left for the airport, we went and explored Yale's Sterling Library.

I am so grateful that my mother came to visit.  Aside from the museum, Rhode Island and Library trips, we also enjoyed a movie together and had a pizza party with our friends/neighbors the Pope's while she was visiting.  She was great and watched Dominic one night so that Michael and I could go on a date.  We are looking forward to visiting Utah soon, maybe the beginning of March.  Until then, anyone is welcome to visit us!
